Where it came from
The Cthulhu Pop figure, designated number 3 in the Pop! Books series, was released by Funko to celebrate H.P. Lovecraft’s iconic cosmic entity. Drawing inspiration from the character’s debut in the 1928 short story The Call of Cthulhu, the figure reimagines the Great Old One as a stylized vinyl collectible. The design translates the character’s complex cephalopod-like features into the signature Funko aesthetic, featuring oversized eyes and a compact, simplified silhouette while maintaining the character’s unmistakable tentacled visage.
This specific patina variant serves as a stylistic departure from the standard colorway, utilizing a weathered, metallic finish to evoke the feeling of an ancient, sunken artifact recovered from the depths of R'lyeh. The design choice leans into the character’s long-standing cultural status as a legendary figure of cosmic horror, aiming to provide collectors with a more atmospheric representation of the entity. Since its introduction, the figure has been received as a staple for fans of Lovecraftian literature and pop-culture horror iconography.
