Where it came from
Don Lockwood, the iconic protagonist portrayed by Gene Kelly in the 1952 MGM musical Singin' in the Rain, was immortalized as a Funko Pop figure to celebrate the enduring legacy of Hollywood's golden age. Released as part of the Pop! Movies line, this figure captures the character in his signature yellow raincoat, paying homage to the film's most famous musical number which remains a touchstone of cinematic history.
The design draws directly from the aesthetic of the 1952 production, emphasizing the whimsical, high-energy spirit of the character. Funko’s design team focused on translating the cinematic choreography of the rain sequence into their established stylized form, ensuring the figure remained recognizable to fans of classic musicals. The release was generally received as a thoughtful nod to film history, appealing to collectors who appreciate the intersection of modern pop culture collectibles and classic movie iconography.
