Where it came from
Shorty, the small, mischievous Gremlin from the 1984 film Gremlins, was immortalized in Funko’s Pop! Movies line as figure number 932. This particular iteration features a black light-reactive design, a stylistic choice intended to mimic the vibrant, glowing aesthetic popular in mid-century counterculture and retro arcade environments. The figure captures his distinct spiked hair and snarling expression, reflecting the chaotic, comedic-horror tone established by director Joe Dante.
The design process for this variant focuses on translating the creature's practical effects into the stylized, oversized-head silhouette characteristic of the Funko brand. While the original movie relied on complex animatronics and puppetry, this collectible leans into a neon-infused color palette designed to fluoresce under UV light. It serves as a nostalgic nod for collectors who appreciate the blend of 1980s creature design with modern, stylized toy aesthetics.
