Where it came from
Hello Kitty was introduced by Sanrio in 1974, created by designer Yuko Shimizu. The character was intended to fill a void in the market for a simple, charming mascot that could appeal to both children and adults. By the time Funko released the Pop! Sanrio line, which includes the number 130 Hello Kitty figure, the character had already established a global identity as a cornerstone of 'kawaii' culture, transcending her origins as a stationery mascot to become a massive international brand.
The Funko Pop! iteration of Hello Kitty maintains the character's signature minimalist aesthetic, featuring her iconic red bow, lack of a visible mouth, and simple geometric proportions. This design adheres to the standard Pop! vinyl figure template, which prioritizes a stylized, bobble-headed appearance. Upon release, the figure was well-received by fans of both the Sanrio franchise and the broader collecting community, solidifying her status as an essential figure within the Sanrio-themed subset of the Pop! vinyl collection.
