Where it came from
Keroppi, the spirited frog from Donut Pond, was introduced by Sanrio in 1988 as part of their expanding cast of characters centered around themes of friendship and optimism. By the time Funko released this Pop! vinyl figure as number 157 in their Sanrio series, the brand had achieved global cultural ubiquity. The figure captures Keroppi's signature large, expressive eyes and circular head, reflecting the company's commitment to maintaining the distinct, minimalist aesthetic established by the original Sanrio designers.
This figure was released to appeal to the intersection of modern vinyl toy collecting and long-standing Sanrio nostalgia. Funko's design approach for the Sanrio line consistently focuses on translating the two-dimensional, iconic character art into a stylized, three-dimensional form that retains the playful spirit of the source material. Upon its release, the figure was welcomed by collectors as a faithful representation of the character, reinforcing Keroppi's status as one of Sanrio's most enduring and recognizable mascots.
