John Lennon [Color Reject]

The Funko Pop! Rocks line expanded into the vibrant world of The Beatles with the release of the Yellow Submarine series. This specific John Lennon figure, identified as number 27, was designed to capture the psychedelic aesthetic of the 1968 animated film. The Color Reject variant is a rare production anomaly where the figure was manufactured without the standard paint application, leaving it in a monochromatic state. These pieces typically originate from quality control oversights where unfinished units inadvertently entered the distribution chain.

The design of the standard John Lennon Pop! figure draws directly from the iconic character art by Heinz Edelmann, the art director for the Yellow Submarine film. Edelmann’s style was characterized by bold lines and surreal, kaleidoscopic patterns, which Funko translated into their signature stylized vinyl form. While the standard figure was well-received by fans for its accuracy to the film's distinct visual language, the Color Reject version remains a sought-after curiosity for collectors interested in the production process and the unintended variations that occur during manufacturing.
