Where it came from
Kenny McCormick was released as part of the initial wave of South Park Pop! figures, cataloged as number 16 in the Animation line. The figure was produced to coincide with the enduring cultural relevance of the long-running animated sitcom, which debuted on Comedy Central in 1997. Funko designed the figure to capture Kenny's signature appearance, featuring his iconic orange hooded parka that obscures his face, a design choice that reflects his long-standing role as the show's recurring trope of tragic and frequent mortality.
The aesthetic of the figure follows Funko's signature stylized approach, balancing the minimalist, construction-paper-inspired design of the original show with the brand's distinct oversized head and simplified proportions. Upon release, the figure was well-received by fans of the series and collectors of animation-themed vinyl figures, serving as a staple piece for those looking to represent the core cast of South Park. It remains a recognizable iteration of the character, staying true to the visual language established by creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
