Where it came from
The Klaatu (Skiff Guard) Pop! figure, numbered 283 in the Star Wars line, depicts a Nikto skiff guard from the iconic Jabba's Palace sequences in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Released by Funko to coincide with the ongoing expansion of the Star Wars franchise, this figure captures a background character who achieved cult status among fans of the 1983 Kenner action figure line. The design translates the character’s practical costume and distinct facial features into the signature oversized-head, minimalist aesthetic that defines the Pop! series.
Funko’s design approach for this release focused on authenticating the character's appearance from the film, specifically highlighting the rugged, desert-dwelling attire of the skiff guards. As part of a wave intended to round out the expansive roster of creatures and secondary characters inhabiting Tatooine, the figure was created for collectors who prioritize completing ensemble sets rather than just lead protagonists. The release was generally well-received by the community for its niche focus, marking a continued commitment to deep-cut character representation within the wider Star Wars collection.
