Where it came from
Released as part of the Pop! Marvel series in 2016, this figure commemorates the longstanding bond between the X-Men’s Kitty Pryde and her alien dragon companion, Lockheed. The pair first appeared together in Uncanny X-Men #166 in 1983, a creative decision by Chris Claremont and artist Paul Smith to provide the character with a unique, loyal partner that reflected the series' adventurous cosmic themes. The design of the figure leans into the classic aesthetic of the X-Men's 1980s era, capturing the nostalgic appeal of their early tenure at the Xavier Institute.
The figure serves as a tribute to the character's legacy, which began with her introduction by Claremont and John Byrne in 1980. As one of the most recognizable iterations of the character in Funko's Marvel line, it was designed to appeal to long-time comic readers who value the history of the X-Men franchise. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors for its inclusion of the diminutive Lockheed, a key element of the character’s design identity, and remains a staple for fans of mutant-centric Marvel merchandise.
