Where it came from
Kowalski was released as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line in 2014 to coincide with the theatrical debut of DreamWorks Animation's Penguins of Madagascar. This figure captures the character’s role as the pragmatic, self-proclaimed brain of the quartet, rendered in the brand’s signature stylized aesthetic with large, dark eyes and a simplified, geometric form consistent with the rest of the collection.
The design draws directly from the established animation style of the Madagascar franchise, translating the character's intellectual and slightly frantic personality into a vinyl figure. As part of the 162-number sequence in the Movies series, this item was intended for both fans of the film and collectors of the broader animation-themed vinyl figures that were experiencing significant market growth at the time of its release.
