Where it came from
The Kuzco Llama Funko Pop, numbered 361 within the Disney series, was released to celebrate the cult following of the 2000 animated film The Emperor's New Groove. The design captures the protagonist, Emperor Kuzco, in his transformed llama state, complete with his signature turquoise collar and an expression intended to convey his typical arrogance and comedic frustration. This figure is a hallmark of Disney's deeper catalog releases, focusing on beloved characters from films that found their primary audience through home media and long-term appreciation.
The character design for the film was spearheaded by character designer Joe Grant and supervising animator Sandro Clemmens, who aimed to imbue the llama form with Kuzco's distinct personality traits and human-like vanity. When Funko translated this to the Pop! aesthetic, they maintained the iconic proportions and minimalist detailing that define the line. The release was well-received by collectors who prioritize the inclusion of non-traditional protagonists and memorable side-characters within their Disney displays.
