Where it came from
Kwame was released as part of the Funko Pop! Animation series, specifically commemorating the 1990s environmental animated series Captain Planet and the Planeteers. The figure represents the character Kwame, the Planeteer from Africa who holds the power of Earth. The design captures his signature look, including his beaded necklace and green top, maintaining the consistent stylistic proportions Funko applies to its character figures.
The figure reflects the nostalgic resurgence of 90s Saturday morning cartoon iconography, a trend Funko frequently leverages to appeal to adult collectors who grew up with the source material. Like other items in the line, this Pop was developed to translate the distinct animation style of the original Hanna-Barbera and DIC Enterprises production into a cohesive, vinyl-molded format. Its release served to round out the set of Planeteers, catering to fans of the show's core message of ecological stewardship.
