Where it came from
Nana, numbered 13 in the Pop! Asia series, represents a distinct branch of Funko's global strategy to localize their vinyl figures for international markets. Released as part of the Omamori Dolls collection, the figure draws inspiration from Japanese folk traditions where omamori serve as protective amulets. The design aesthetic intentionally deviates from the typical licensed pop-culture figures by focusing on regional cultural motifs, blending the signature Funko aesthetic with the symbolic imagery of these traditional charms.
The figure was produced to tap into the intersection of vinyl toy collecting and cultural souvenir traditions in the Asian market. By focusing on the Omamori theme, the creators aimed to present a collectible that felt both contemporary and steeped in heritage. While the specific designer behind this particular sculpt is not publicly credited, the series as a whole was received as an experimental departure for the company, appealing primarily to collectors who valued the blend of traditional iconography with the global phenomenon of the stylized vinyl figure.
