Where it came from
Papa Emeritus IV is a character and musical persona portrayed by Tobias Forge, the mastermind behind the Swedish rock band Ghost. Introduced in 2020 as the successor to Cardinal Copia, the character represents the theatrical, ecclesiastical evolution of the band’s lead singer. Funko released this figure as part of the Pop! Rocks line, marking the band's continued integration into mainstream pop culture collectibles and honoring the elaborate, dark aesthetic that defines the group's stage presence.
The figure was designed to capture the ornate attire of the character, specifically the intricate papal vestments and signature face paint associated with the band’s fourth iteration of the Papa Emeritus mantle. Like many figures in the Pop! Rocks series, it serves as a stylized tribute to musicians who utilize strong visual iconography. Since its release, the figure has been well-received by fans of Ghost, who appreciate the attention to detail in the character's signature skull-motif makeup and opulent costuming.
