Where it came from
Rico, portrayed by Casper Van Dien in the 1997 cult classic Starship Troopers, was immortalized as part of the Funko Pop! Movies line, numbered 172. This figure depicts the character in his iconic Mobile Infantry armor, famously brandishing the 'brain bug' mallet as seen during the film's climax. The design emphasizes the gritty, militaristic aesthetic of Paul Verhoeven's satire, translating the bulky, futuristic infantry gear into the signature stylized proportions that define the Pop! brand.
Released to celebrate the enduring legacy of the film, the figure captures the transition from a polarizing box-office performance to its status as a beloved piece of science fiction cinema. Funko designers aimed to balance the film's inherently dark, satirical tone with the approachable, collectible nature of their vinyl figures. Upon its release, it became a staple for collectors of both cult cinema memorabilia and military-themed sci-fi figures, often serving as a focal point for displays alongside other figures from the 90s action genre.
