Sandtrooper & Dewback

The Sandtrooper and Dewback set was released by Funko as part of their Pop! Star Wars line, specifically categorized as a Deluxe or 'Super' sized Pop! release. These figures were created to celebrate the iconic scenes from A New Hope, where Imperial Sandtroopers patrol the streets of Mos Eisley on the backs of native Tatooine reptiles. This specific design captures the scale difference between the armored trooper and the lumbering creature, reflecting Funko's broader strategy of expanding their standard vinyl aesthetic to include creature-rider sets.

The design follows the signature 'chibi' aesthetic characterized by large, squared heads and simplified features, which has become the defining hallmark of the Pop! brand since its inception. This set was designed to cater to Star Wars completists who appreciate cinematic dioramas. Upon its release, it was well received by the collecting community as a high-value piece for display, largely because it provided a more immersive, multi-piece environment compared to the standard single-character figurines that dominated the toy market at the time.
