Sandy

The Sandy Pop! figure, numbered 114 within the Pop! Television series, represents the character Sha Wujing from the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West. This rendition was released as part of a Funko collection inspired by contemporary television adaptations of the epic, which remains one of the most culturally significant stories in East Asian literature. The figure captures Sandy's traditional iconography, including his signature monk beads and a stylized representation of his weapon, reflecting the character's transition from a celestial general to a devoted disciple.

Funko’s design team approached this series by balancing the stylized, oversized-head aesthetic of the Pop! brand with the distinct, historical attire associated with the character's folkloric portrayals. The design was intended to provide a bridge between traditional mythological figures and the modern toy aesthetic favored by pop culture collectors. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by fans of the series and those interested in figures representing global folklore, serving as an accessible entry point for international collectors to engage with characters from the classic Chinese canon.
