Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Television line, this figure commemorates the character Stefon, the eccentric New York City club correspondent portrayed by Bill Hader on Saturday Night Live. The character originated in a 2008 sketch and became a cultural phenomenon due to Hader's inability to keep a straight face while reading the absurdly specific club descriptions written by John Mulaney. This figure captures Stefon in his signature pose, hands covering his mouth, echoing his iconic struggle to contain his laughter during Weekend Update segments.
The figure is part of the first wave of the Saturday Night Live collection, designed to appeal to fans of long-running late-night sketch comedy. Funko opted for a stylized, minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes the character's most recognizable physical tic. Upon its release, the figure was met with enthusiasm from SNL devotees, who appreciated the meta-humor inherent in selecting a character defined by his performative discomfort for a collectible format.
