Where it came from
The 10-inch Stormtrooper Pop figure was released as a special edition to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. As part of the Funko Pop! Star Wars series, this oversized release was designed to serve as a centerpiece for collectors, scaling up the iconic Imperial infantry design to emphasize the character's status as a foundational element of the franchise's visual identity.
The design draws directly from the classic armor aesthetic established by Ralph McQuarrie and John Mollo for the original 1977 film, scaled into the signature Funko stylized vinyl format. Upon its release, the figure was primarily marketed toward Celebration attendees and dedicated Star Wars enthusiasts, receiving a positive reception for its departure from the standard 3.75-inch height and its clean, minimalist presentation of the Stormtrooper uniform.
