Where it came from
BrickJournal is a long-running hobbyist magazine dedicated to the adult fan of LEGO (AFOL) community, serving as a comprehensive chronicle of builds, techniques, and industry news. Issue 39, released in early 2016, focuses specifically on the theme of 'Space,' highlighting the historical evolution of LEGO space sets and the innovative custom models created by fans who grew up with the classic themes of the 1970s and 1980s.
The publication was founded and edited by Joe Meno, who sought to provide a professional-grade platform for showcasing the intricate artistic capabilities of plastic brick construction. The design of this particular issue leans into a retro-futuristic aesthetic, mirroring the nostalgia of the iconic Classic Space line while featuring interviews with builders who explore advanced greebling and architectural techniques. It was received as a definitive resource for builders interested in the technical nuances of space-themed MOCs (My Own Creations).
