Where it came from
The Republic Fighter Tank (set 7679-1) was released by the LEGO Group in 2008 as part of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars subtheme. The design was inspired by the TX-130 Saber-class fighter tank, which first appeared in the 2002 video game Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The set was created to capture the aesthetic of the early Clone Wars era, characterized by a utilitarian, heavy-armored appearance that contrasted with the sleeker designs of the later films.
The model is noted for its functional features, including opening cockpit hatches, a rotating turret, and missile launchers integrated into the chassis. It was designed to reflect the rapid-deployment nature of the Republic military, featuring a color scheme consistent with the Clone Trooper aesthetic of the period. The set was well-regarded by collectors for its sturdy build and for including two Phase 1 Clone Troopers, helping to establish the early visual identity of the LEGO Clone Wars line.
