Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the growing LEGO Friends line, this advent calendar was designed to translate the Heartlake City theme into a seasonal, countdown-based experience. By this time, the Friends theme had established its distinct aesthetic, characterized by a pastel color palette and unique mini-doll figures, which were designed to offer a more stylized and narrative-driven play experience compared to the traditional minifigures used in LEGO City or Star Wars sets.
The 41016 set followed the standard structure of the advent calendar series, offering 24 small, buildable models that create a cohesive winter-themed display when combined. Designers aimed to capture the festive atmosphere of Heartlake City, including miniature scenes of animal care, baking, and winter recreation. Upon release, the set was well-received by fans of the Friends sub-theme for its seasonal charm and the inclusion of exclusive holiday-themed versions of characters like Mia and Peter.
