Where it came from
Released in September 2022, the LEGO Minifigures Series 23 collection was designed to celebrate the spirit of costumed play and imaginative disguise. Departing from the specific licensing partnerships often seen in other sets, this series focused on whimsical, original character concepts ranging from a cardboard robot and a popcorn suit mascot to a holiday-themed elf and a turkey. The creative team aimed to recapture the playful nature of childhood dress-up, emphasizing unique textures and mold shapes that pushed the boundaries of standard minifigure assembly.
The series received a generally positive reception from the adult collector community, who appreciated the vibrant color palettes and the return of intricate accessory pieces. By packaging these as blind bags, LEGO reinforced the collectible aspect of the series, encouraging trading and completionism within the hobbyist market. The set reflects the brand’s enduring commitment to evolving its character designs while maintaining the compatibility and tactile quality that has defined the minifigure since its inception in the late 1970s.
