Where it came from
Released in September 2022, the LEGO Minifigures Series 23 represents the 23rd iteration of the company’s long-running blind-bag collection. This series was designed to coincide with the 90th anniversary of the LEGO Group, featuring a whimsical range of costume-themed characters that draw inspiration from historical fantasy, seasonal celebrations, and carnival aesthetics. The assortment aimed to provide a playful, creative departure from more grounded licensed themes, focusing on distinct character-building elements like the Nutcracker, the Popcorn Costume, and the Knight of the Yellow Castle.
The character designs were conceptualized by the LEGO internal design team, emphasizing interchangeable parts and thematic accessories that allow for high customization within the wider minifigure ecosystem. Upon release, the series was well-received by the adult collector community, particularly for its nod to vintage castle sets and the intricate mold work on the character-specific outfits. By utilizing the mystery-bag distribution model, the collection encouraged community engagement and trading, solidifying its place as a staple of contemporary LEGO collecting culture.
