Where it came from
Released in early 2011, LEGO Minifigures Series 3 (8803) marked the third installment in a groundbreaking blind-bag mystery series that shifted the brand’s focus toward individual character collectability. By offering distinct, themed characters—ranging from the Sumo Wrestler and the Tennis Player to the eccentric Gorilla Suit Guy—LEGO invited fans to engage with the product through the excitement of the unknown rather than through traditional set building.
The series design was spearheaded by the LEGO internal team, building on the success of the first two series to refine the 'mystery bag' concept that had revitalized interest among adult fans and children alike. The line was received with significant enthusiasm, quickly becoming a staple in retail checkouts and spawning a vibrant secondary market for fans seeking specific 'chase' figures to complete their collections.
