Where it came from
Released in 2011, LEGO Minifigures Series 3 was the third installment in a groundbreaking blind-bag series that transformed the company's retail strategy. By offering individual, mystery-packaged figures, LEGO shifted the collector's focus from large, expensive construction sets to affordable, character-driven pieces. This particular set of 60 sealed packets represented a complete display box, a format intentionally designed for retail counters to allow collectors to hunt for specific characters without knowledge of the contents hidden inside.
The design of Series 3 featured a diverse array of characters, including the Hula Dancer, the Samurai, and the Space Villain, showcasing the versatility of the minifigure medium. Each character was developed to push the limits of injection molding and pad printing at the time, often incorporating unique accessories or hair molds that would later become staples of the LEGO design language. The series was met with significant enthusiasm, quickly establishing the 'blind bag' model as a permanent and highly anticipated part of the LEGO portfolio.
