Where it came from
Released by The LEGO Group in 2011, Series 4 of the Collectible Minifigure line followed the successful initial launch of the series in mid-2010. The series was designed to provide fans with high-quality, specialized character figures that were not available in standard building sets. By this iteration, the collection had firmly established its 'blind bag' retail model, encouraging enthusiasts to hunt for specific characters like the Monster, the Surfer, or the Hazmat Guy.
The character designs for Series 4 were spearheaded by the LEGO creative team, who focused on intricate printing and unique molded accessories to differentiate the figures from previous series. The box, containing sixty individually sealed bags, was distributed to retail outlets to ensure a balanced assortment for collectors. Upon release, the series was well-received for its quirky variety and the inclusion of elements that were highly useful for custom figure builders.
