Where it came from
The LEGO City Racing Cars set, released in 2020, was designed to highlight the high-energy world of professional motorsports. Part of the broader LEGO City theme, which focuses on modern urban life and service vehicles, this set provides an accessible entry point for builders interested in automotive design. It follows a long tradition of LEGO vehicles that emphasize playability and aerodynamic aesthetics suitable for children aged five and up.
The set features two distinct race cars: one styled after a classic internal combustion engine racer and the other as an electric car equipped with a fast-charge point. This design choice reflects contemporary discussions regarding the transition to electric vehicles in professional racing. It was well-received by the building community for its inclusion of two distinct driver minifigures and its straightforward, effective approach to representing the dual nature of modern competitive sport.
