Where it came from
The Racing Lion, identified by set number 1405-1, was released as part of the Lego Duplo theme in the mid-1990s. Designed for the toddler demographic, the set focused on simplicity and tactile engagement, featuring a brightly colored, chunky stylized lion figure seated in a small, wheeled racing vehicle. It reflected the era's design philosophy of combining character-based play with basic construction elements to encourage early fine motor skills.
Lego Duplo sets from this period were engineered to be compatible with larger building systems while remaining safe and durable for young children. The Racing Lion was received as a cheerful, accessible entry point for toddlers, emphasizing the brand's commitment to gender-neutral, imaginative play. Its design prioritized rounded edges and primary colors, ensuring the piece was both visually stimulating and safe for the intended age range of 1.5 to 5 years old.
