Where it came from
Released in 2007, the LEGO Star Wars Magnet Set (851939-1) was part of a series of promotional accessory packs that bundled popular minifigures with stylized display bases. These sets were designed to bridge the gap between traditional building sets and functional office or home decor, allowing fans to mount their favorite characters onto metallic surfaces using embedded magnets.
The set features minifigures from the Star Wars Expanded Universe and the prequel trilogy era. LEGO's design philosophy for these magnets focused on durability and aesthetic recognizability, ensuring the characters remained consistent with their standard playset counterparts. While the set was well-received by collectors for its compact nature and display utility, LEGO later modified this product line by permanently gluing the minifigures to their magnet bases, a design shift that influenced the secondary market value of these earlier, detachable versions.
