Where it came from
Released in 2012 as part of the LEGO Friends theme, the Summer Picnic polybag set 30108-1 was designed to capture the cheerful aesthetic of the Heartlake City series. This theme was developed by the LEGO Group to provide a more character-driven building experience, utilizing a new mini-doll figure format that featured more realistic proportions compared to the traditional blocky minifigure. The set reflects the brand's shift toward narrative-based play, focusing on themes of friendship and outdoor leisure.
The design of this specific polybag centers on a classic picnic scene, including a small table, accessories for dining, and a butterfly, intended to complement larger building sets within the Friends line. Its visual identity leans into a vibrant color palette typical of the Friends range, specifically chosen to appeal to a demographic that appreciates detailed, role-play-focused environments. Upon its introduction, the set was widely distributed as a promotional item, serving as an accessible entry point for new collectors to engage with the growing Friends universe.
