Where it came from
The LEGO Duplo Tokyo Racing set, released in 2018, was part of a broader series of building sets designed to engage young children with themes of speed and automotive play. Created during a period when the Duplo line was expanding its focus on interactive storytelling and character-driven sets, this particular collection was engineered for toddlers to develop fine motor skills through basic construction and imaginative racing narratives.
The design of the set reflects the characteristic chunky, durable aesthetic of Duplo bricks, tailored specifically for small hands. By utilizing vibrant colors and simplified vehicle chassis, the designers aimed to provide a frustration-free assembly experience that encouraged open-ended play. It was received as a straightforward, accessible addition to the preschool market, emphasizing safe, screen-free engagement with the concepts of movement and competitive play.
