Where it came from
Released in 2012, the World Grand Prix set (5839-1) was part of the LEGO Duplo Cars 2 collection, inspired by the Pixar film of the same name. Designed for the younger preschool demographic, the set aimed to capture the excitement of international racing through simplified, chunky vehicle builds that were easy for small hands to manipulate and sturdy enough for active play.
The set features iconic characters Lightning McQueen and Francesco Bernoulli, reflecting the film's focus on a global competition. LEGO designers focused on bright, primary colors and recognizable decals to translate the sleek animation of the movie into a physical format that remained safe and engaging for toddlers, leading to its status as a staple for young fans of the Cars franchise during the early 2010s.
