Where it came from
The Shere Khan card from the Hyperia City set was released as part of an expansion designed to integrate classic literary figures into a modern, cyberpunk-inspired tabletop universe. Released in the early 2020s, the design team aimed to reinterpret the character through a digital-noir lens, utilizing sharp, neon-accented linework and a muted color palette to reflect the aesthetic of a futuristic, sprawling metropolis.
The artwork was commissioned to emphasize the character’s predatory dominance within a high-stakes, technology-driven society. Upon release, the enchanted rarity tier of this card was noted by collectors for its holographic foil treatment, which creates a shifting light effect behind the character’s portrait. It remains a focal point for set completionists who prioritize both thematic character reinterpretation and the specific manufacturing techniques used for the Hyperia City series.
