Where it came from
Brazen Borrower was originally released in the 2019 expansion Throne of Eldraine. The card was designed as a showcase of the adventure mechanic, which allows a permanent to be cast as an instant or sorcery before entering the battlefield as a creature. This specific printing comes from the Secrets of Strixhaven Commander series, which repurposed popular cards from across Magic: The Gathering's history by featuring them with exclusive art styles that mirrored the aesthetic of the Strixhaven University setting.
The art for this version was provided by Magali Villeneuve, a prominent illustrator within the Magic community known for her elegant and high-fantasy aesthetic. In this iteration, the Borrower is depicted with an ethereal, scholarly quality that fits the academic theme of Strixhaven. Upon its release in the expanded card pool, the card was well-received by players for its versatility, offering a bounce effect that disrupts opponents' strategies while simultaneously providing a reliable flying creature threat.
