Abzan Charm

Abzan Charm was originally introduced in the 2014 Magic: The Gathering set Khans of Tarkir, designed to represent the tactical flexibility of the Abzan Houses. The card features a 'choose one' mechanic that offers three distinct modal effects—exiling a creature, placing +1/+1 counters, or drawing cards—designed to reflect the resilience and endurance of the faction's lore. The Commander 2020 version, which is the specific iteration identified here, was selected for inclusion in the preconstructed 'Ruthless Regiment' deck to provide versatile removal and utility for multi-color decks in the Commander format.

The artwork for this specific printing maintains the aesthetic established in the Khans of Tarkir block, focusing on the architectural and desert-based motifs of the Abzan. While the original illustration was handled by Mathias Kollros, who sought to capture the stoic and armored nature of the faction, subsequent reprints like this one serve to maintain the mechanical accessibility of the card for newer players. The card is widely regarded by players as a staple for green-white-black deck archetypes due to its efficiency in responding to varied board states.
