Where it came from
Together Forever was released in 2020 as part of the Commander 2020 set, specifically within the Timeless Wisdom preconstructed deck. This card serves as a thematic anchor for the set's focus on the white color identity, functioning as a support mechanic for decks that prioritize creature resilience and board presence. It emerged during a period when Wizards of the Coast was expanding its support for the Commander format, aiming to provide players with tools to protect their key pieces from the common removal effects inherent in multiplayer gameplay.
The artwork, illustrated by Aleksi Briclot, emphasizes the card's defensive and synergetic nature, depicting a visual narrative of connection and endurance. Briclot, a prolific contributor to the Magic: The Gathering aesthetic, utilized a style that highlights the protective aura suggested by the card’s ability to return creatures to hand. Upon release, the card was received as a functional, if modest, inclusion for white-based decks, appreciated by players for its ability to generate recurring value when paired with creatures that feature enter-the-battlefield effects.
