What it does
When Admiral Brass enters, mill four cards.
At the beginning of combat on your turn, you may return target Pirate creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield with a finality counter on it. It has base power and toughness 4/4. It gains haste until end of turn. (If a creature with a finality counter on it would die, exile it instead.)

Where it came from
Admiral Brass, Unsinkable was released in 2023 as part of The Lost Caverns of Ixalan Commander set, a collection of supplemental decks designed for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format. This iteration of the character represents the pirate commander in her undead form, reflecting the thematic shift toward the necromantic and archaeological mysteries found within the plane of Ixalan. The card design leans heavily into the 'reanimation' strategy, allowing players to return pirate creatures from the graveyard to the battlefield with added power, aligning with the lore of a captain who refuses to stay buried.
The card was illustrated by Aurore Folny, who captured the character's spectral aesthetic and authoritative presence. The design was crafted to provide synergy with the Ahoy Mateys deck, focusing on aggressive board recovery and tribal mechanics. Upon its release, it was well-received by players who enjoy the Grixis color identity and graveyard-centric gameplay, quickly becoming a staple choice for those looking to build around a resilient, pirate-themed strategy.
