Where it came from
Adrix and Nev, Twincasters was released in 2021 as one of the featured display commanders for the Prismari Performance deck in the Commander 2021 set. The card was designed for the Magic: The Gathering multiplayer format, intended to provide players with a powerful engine for token-based strategies by doubling any tokens created under the controller's control. Its release coincided with a shift toward more synergistic, mechanically dense designs for preconstructed decks.
The character art for the duo was created by illustrator Magali Villeneuve, a prominent artist in the Magic: The Gathering community. Villeneuve focused on capturing the essence of the Prismari college from the Strixhaven plane, emphasizing the fluid, magical synergy between the two mages. The card was well-received upon release for its high impact in casual play and its elegant implementation of the doubling effect, which had previously been reserved for higher-cost green cards.
