Where it came from
Aerial Extortionist was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, a collection themed around the art deco-inspired, mob-controlled metropolis of New Capenna. Mechanically designed as a white-aligned flyer with removal capabilities, it reflects the set’s focus on high-stakes political maneuvering and resource management within the Magic: The Gathering Commander format.
The card features artwork by Bryan Sola, who focused on the character's imposing, avian-inspired aesthetic to fit the decadent, corrupt atmosphere of the New Capenna setting. As a part of the supplemental Commander product line, the card was received as a functional tool for decks looking to mitigate threats while simultaneously maintaining card parity, becoming a noted inclusion for mid-to-high power level playgroups.
