Aether Flash

Aether Flash was originally introduced in the Weatherlight expansion in 1997 and was subsequently reprinted in the Classic Sixth Edition set, released in 1999. As an enchantment, the card reflects the high-interaction design philosophy of early Magic: The Gathering, where board-state mechanics often penalized players for deploying creatures without sufficient preparation. Its mechanical function—dealing two damage to any creature as it enters the battlefield—served as a potent counter to aggressive creature strategies prevalent during that era of gameplay.

The artwork was provided by fantasy illustrator Ron Spencer, whose visceral and bold style became a hallmark of the game during the late 1990s. Spencer was known for his ability to convey raw magical energy and intense movement, which aligned perfectly with the card's theme of a sudden, volatile discharge.
