Where it came from
Sarkhan Unbroken was originally released in the 2015 Magic: The Gathering set Dragons of Tarkir, designed as a planeswalker card representing the character's pivotal role in the storyline's time-travel arc. This specific version originates from the Guilds of Ravnica Mythic Edition, a limited-release product introduced by Wizards of the Coast in 2018 to cater to high-end collectors by featuring premium, borderless, foil-etched art.
The artwork for this particular iteration was created by Aleksi Briclot, a veteran fantasy illustrator known for his distinct, expressive style. By reimagining the character in a wide-format, artistic style that prioritizes visual immersion over traditional card framing, the Mythic Edition sought to elevate the card from a functional game piece into a collectible piece of contemporary fantasy illustration, receiving acclaim for its departure from standard set aesthetics.
