Ajani's Pridemate

Ajani's Pridemate is a hallmark creature card from the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, originally debuting in the 2011 Magic 2011 core set. Designed as a foundational white creature, its core mechanic—gaining a +1/+1 counter whenever its controller gains life—perfectly encapsulates the 'Soul Sisters' archetype and the aggressive, synergy-focused nature of white decks during that era. The card was illustrated by Steve Argyle, who depicted the Leonin warrior with a commanding presence that emphasizes his thematic connection to the planeswalker Ajani Goldmane.

This specific version of the card comes from 'The List,' a curated selection of reprints integrated into Set Boosters that allows players to discover iconic cards from the game's long history. The inclusion of the Pridemate in this format honors its status as a staple for both new and experienced players, serving as a reminder of the game's evolving design philosophy. It remains a widely recognized figure in the hobby, celebrated for its simple yet effective scaling ability that rewards consistent life-gain strategies.
