Ajani's Pridemate

Ajani's Pridemate was originally introduced in the 2011 Magic: The Gathering core set, designed as an uncommon creature that rewards players for gaining life. Within the context of the War of the Spark expansion, released in 2019, the card was reprinted to integrate the character Ajani Goldmane into the set's narrative as part of the Gatewatch's defense against Nicol Bolas. This version retains the core mechanical identity of the original, serving as a scaling threat that grows in strength alongside its controller's life-gaining strategies.

The artwork for this particular iteration was provided by Igor Kieryluk, an artist noted for his dynamic depictions of creatures and planeswalkers within the game. His illustration captures the Pridemate in a moment of readiness, reflecting the heroic, protective nature of Ajani's leonin followers. The design was received by the player base as a staple utility creature, valued for its efficiency and its ability to act as a significant focal point for aggressive white-aligned decks throughout its various appearances in the game's history.
