Akroma, Angel of Wrath

Akroma, Angel of Wrath was originally introduced in the 2003 Magic: The Gathering set Legions. Designed by creative director Brady Dommermuth and illustrated by Ron Spencer, the character was conceived as a formidable, non-aligned force of nature driven by pure vengeance. The card quickly became iconic within the player base for its dense keyword list—flying, first strike, trample, haste, and protection from black and red—which made it a definitive high-cost finisher in the game's competitive environment.

The version from the Time Spiral Timeshifted subset, released in 2006, pays homage to the original design by utilizing the classic card frame. This set was designed to celebrate the history of Magic by reprinting influential cards from previous eras using a nostalgic aesthetic. By presenting Akroma in this retro-styled frame, Wizards of the Coast sought to bridge the gap between legacy players who remembered her debut and newer fans, cementing her status as one of the most recognizable legendary creatures in the game's history.
