Where it came from
Alabaster Potion was released in 1994 as part of the Legends expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. This set was notable for introducing multi-colored cards and complex mechanics, developed by an external design team led by Robin Lassonde. It was intended to add strategic depth to the early competitive scene by encouraging players to diversify their mana bases.
The card features artwork by Margaret Organ-Kean, who contributed several pieces to early expansions. Her illustration for Alabaster Potion utilizes the distinct fantasy aesthetic of the mid-1990s, focusing on the mystical imagery of alchemical healing. While the card is often cited by players for its niche utility and limited impact on high-level play, it remains a recognized artifact of the game's formative years.
