Where it came from
Alania, Divergent Storm was released as part of the promotional offerings for the 2024 Magic: The Gathering expansion, Bloomburrow. Set within a whimsical, anthropomorphic animal world, the card was designed to highlight the set's focus on creature-centric mechanics and spell-casting synergies. The promo version, marked as 204s, features distinct alternative art that reflects the lush, storybook-inspired aesthetic that defines the Bloomburrow visual identity.
The character design for Alania emphasizes the creature type and setting established by the Wizards of the Coast art team. By utilizing a high-fantasy, painterly style consistent with the card game's modern art direction, the illustration captures the essence of a storm-aligned otter mage. Within the community, this promo variant is appreciated for its cohesive integration into the artistic theme of the set, serving as a standout piece for players and collectors of the Bloomburrow series.
