Animate Artifact

Animate Artifact debuted in the 1994 Summer Magic set, also colloquially known as Edgar. This set was a special print run of the Revised Edition released to address supply shortages in the European market. Because the printing process differed slightly from standard editions, these cards often feature a distinct color saturation and cardstock quality that makes them a unique point of interest for collectors of early Magic: The Gathering history.

The card features artwork by Amy Weber, one of the iconic original illustrators for the game. The design depicts the magical infusion of life into a metallic construct, a concept central to the game's early blue-aligned mechanical themes. While the card was initially viewed as a niche utility piece for artifact-heavy decks, its thematic depiction of transmogrification helped define the visual language of the game's earliest expansions.
