What it does
Enchant your library
Enchanted library is an artifact creature on the battlefield with power and toughness each equal to the number of cards in it. It's still a library.
If enchanted library would leave the battlefield, exile this Aura instead.
Sometimes the books hit back.

Where it came from
Animate Library was released in 2017 as part of the Unstable set, a supplemental Magic: The Gathering expansion designed for casual 'un-sets' that prioritize humor and experimental mechanics. It was designed by Wizards of the Coast's R&D team, led by Mark Rosewater, with the specific intent of exploring the concept of bringing a library of books to life, a whimsical departure from standard fantasy tropes. The card relies on the 'host' mechanic, which allows players to combine two cards together to create unique creatures, reflecting the set's focus on imaginative, unconventional gameplay.
The card features illustration by Svetlin Velinov, whose art style was chosen to translate the lighthearted, sentient-book concept into a tangible visual format. The design highlights a stack of books with expressive faces, grounding the surreal nature of the card in a friendly, cartoonish aesthetic. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the dedicated player base as a standout example of the set's creative flexibility, frequently cited for its success in blending literal wordplay with functional game design.
