Where it came from
Everythingamajig first appeared in the 2017 Magic: The Gathering set Unstable, designed by Wizards of the Coast. This silver-bordered set was conceived as a lighthearted, experimental experience that purposefully broke standard game rules to prioritize humor and chaotic gameplay. The card itself exemplifies this philosophy by featuring a variable ability that changes based on which version of the card is played, reflecting the designers' focus on unpredictable interactions and recursive game states.
The art and mechanical design for this series were developed under the direction of Mark Rosewater, who sought to push the boundaries of what a card could physically and conceptually achieve. Everythingamajig was crafted to serve as an anchor for the set's themes, utilizing unconventional mechanics that require players to track state changes throughout a match. Upon release, it was lauded by the community for its inventive, albeit complex, design that encapsulates the playful spirit of the Un-series.
